The Covid-19 pandemic badly affected migrant families in Srikakulam & Vizianagaram Districts of Andhra Pradesh, more than one lakh population migrated from the District every year and an approximate 90000 migrants may reach their homes in the District before complete lockdown. The migrant families completely lost their income due to the Covid-19 lockdown, the Single Women, Domestic Workers, Small Vendors, and Fish Vendors who lead their family was lost their daily wage facing trouble for daily bread, these situations affect the health needs of Children, Adolescents, Women and aged people in these families.
The most backward communities living isolated with different tradition and culture practices, lack of awareness on health measures lead them to vulnerable situations of Covid-19 when the migrants return to their homes, the families are going to become more vulnerable.
During the Covid-19 pandemic situation, HOPESSS initiated its work to protect these families by providing Masks, Handwashing soaps, Sanitary napkins for Adolescent Girls, general medicine support and nutritious food for children 0-6 years and elderly people and also conduct awareness on handwashing practices, physical distancing, usage of the mask and menstrual health awareness to protect themselves from Covid-19 pandemic to protect the lives of 900 migrant families in the district
